I always get a skimmer rated for at least 1.5x to 2x
A 190L Tank i would get a skimmer rated for 285 liter to 380 liter (75Gallon to 100gallon). Also if you have a sump figure that into it as well. SO in you have a 100 liter sump add another 100l to your skimmer.

If you are talking pump from sump for return it depends on opinion and what you run.
A good start is 10x. I have a tank that is about 200l and I push 1600l on my return. It works for now. For the skimmer if you buy one it will have a pump rated for it.

I also have a Vortech MP10 pushing extra flow in the main tank.

Does it matter if you use 600 skimmer for a 190 l tank?

3x could possibly be too much. unless the tank is very heavily stocked.

My reef knowledge got mixed up my bad. I know 10x for reefs. And just in my experiece I always go for 10x. Yes my current sump like stated is under that but I have the ecotech. So I blew the 10 out of teh water.

Skimmers only work if there are big bubbles rising to the top and popping out organics into the collection cup.
The bigger the neck, the more organics are needed to skim. Bigger neck sizes mean you can process more out at once but they're also a bit more unstable. Get a properly sized skimmer for your organic load and processing load. I've noticed a significant increase in skimmer productivity with faster sump turn over. |
