led's cause for across color loss?

Hey every one I have a maxspect mazzara p series led system but I've Knowtessed that I have 2 prices of the same acro but they look world's different in terms of color and I don't understand why since I have another acro growing beautifully on the sand bed does any one know why? It has been like this for a while now my levels have been good up till about 4 days ago but it's looked like this for about 2 months. If any one knows why these 2 Identical corals are not any more plz help me out

I would suspect the one on the sand bed is getting less light.

I have the same problem.

I tried SPS under LED and all the Colors Faded and they turned Brown.

I only keep my SPS under T5 now.

LED is great for LPS and Softies though just not SPS.

That sure is funny cause I've seen several SPS dominated tanks lit only with LED.

Just speaking from my personal experience.

All my SPS loose color (They do not die and still grow just loose all their color) under LED.

I can only keep them under T5.

My LPS and Softies love LED though.

Hey Fish Guy,

If your SPS are turning brown that is indicative of low light and sometimes high nutrients. What kind of LED's are you using?

The wrong or limited LED spectrum can cause loss of SPS color as well even thought the coral continues to thrive it may brown out if not being hit with the wavelengths of light that were previously causing it to fluoresce in bright colors. (see the "open letter to the LED industry" thread for a heck of a lot of info on that subject, just read past some of the early bickering and look for the info and links)

@ the OP if the one on the sand bed looks good and one higher up does not, the one higher up is getting too strong of light from the LEDs. the optics can create small hot spots that may be burning the coral to some degree.

That is correct. Depending on the size tank, you would need quite a few Kessil 150's for a SPS tank!

I had a 150 right over an Acro secale and it still browned out. The 360's are different of course, but 150's not so much.

Light was on 8 to 12 Hours a Day.

It is about 10 Inches off the Water Level (It is on the Kessil Gooseneck).
