stunnner strips... what's the best color for shimmer?

Howdy reefers,

I would like to upgrade my current light by sticking on some stunner strips. my current fixture is an aquatic life T5 HO light fixture with 420/460nm and 10,000K lamps. It's 36 inches. I run it about 8 hours a day.

I want to add some stunners that I can run 24 hours. The question is what color? Something that adds shimmer and coral coloration. Also something that mimics moonlight. I was thinking blue, but then I noticed the magenta/blue combo... anybody have experience with those?

Feel free to share your stunner strip experiences and opinions! Thanks in advance and cheers!

Spend the $100 and get better bulbs. Stock Aquatic Life bulbs aren't all that great.

They are way too bright for that. Your tank needs a period of at least 8 hours of total darkness to let everything rest. Corals are animals and need rest just like every other animal.

The question is what color? I'm looking for the shimmer. I'm looking for the best colors to being out colors in my corals.... (mostly LPS, acans), and I'm also looking to mimic dusk/dawn/moonlight for the fish/corals.

You won't get any shimmer with the stunner strips. They aren't strong enough to penetrate through 4 T5s. Again, you can't use them for moonlights.

So is blue the way to go? Or I was thinking the magenta/blue?

If you're still set on adding some stunner strips, blue is the way to go. It will add a ton of pop when the T5s are off but that is it. A nice mix of blue and near UV looks really good but I don't find it worth the money at all.

I really liked my stunner strips when I ran them but they just aren't worth the money unless you just want some extra pop when your main lights are off. Even then, there are some much cheaper alternatives on the market for adding the blue LED pop.

Hope that helps!

agree with some of that, you won't get shimmer though your t-5s. they are also too "blue" to provide shimmer by themselves. they are good for adding a little coloration, and they are fine for moonlights, but you do need "dark" time too. i ran 4 of them to supplement my metal halide. i would let them run about 2-3 hours after the halide goes off as moonlights. i have 2 royal blue and 2 magenta/blue. i like em, there probably are cheaper out there...
