What's your ideal refugium?

What do you think would be the best refugium setup? Realistically speaking, the optimal refugium design.
Size? Contents? Sp of algae? Light? Flow?

Pictures of your current refugium / sump filtration welcome!

I'm planning on getting 3 Aqueon 33gal long aquariums, and drilling and plumbing them in series. They will be mounted above the display tank. Each tank will have a separate species of macro algae, and the clean water and copepods will slowly drain into the display tank.

This is mine...designed by Louis at Elegant Reef here in San Antonio.
54"x18"x15". Drains, filter socks, skimmer, return, refugium. I love it so far!

Go with 2 inch bulkheads and 2 inch pvc to connect them. What your looking at doing is very similar to my setup. I'll take a picture.

Here is a pic of it. Water is pumped up to the top tanks and goes through a filter box up on top of each tank. Then goes down a 2 inch pvc pipe back into the main tank. I also have a 3/4 hose coming down from the other side of the refugiums as a backup.

That is very similar to what I was thinking, but mine would be in series, and hidden inside my canopy.

I've thought about doing a display refugium like that, but I don't know if I want the added hassle of keeping the refugium clean...

Right now, because of finances and busy schedule, I bought a single 30 breeder (36" x 18" x 12") instead of three 33 longs (48" x 13" x 12"). I'm just going to plumb it in with my current sump (more traditional), maybe if i free up some time I'll build a rig to mount it above my tank.
I'll try and post pictures when I get it finished.
