need pics of herbie overflow on RR tanks..
was wondering if anyone has pics of a herbie style overflow on a RR tank.. i have corner overflows that came with durso standpipes. just curious what a herbie style looks like and how its done inside of the overflow boxes on reef ready tanks.....thanx in advance...

I don't have a picture, but if I ever get around to doing it one corner overflow would be the drain to the sump. Then water would flow through the sump and return up through the other corner overflow. Powerheads would make up the lack of circulation on the drain side.

Here's mine. Didn't bother with dursos. My return is simply a drilled 3/4 on the opposite side. Smaller one should be your siphon.

wangspeed, my overflows came with two 1" holes predrilled...does that matter?

also wangspeed, how quiet is it? do you hear anything from the water pouring over the over flow?

If they're both the same size, it doesn't matter. As far as noise goes, it's silent, unless the overflow runs low, and breaks siphon. You can cut the lower pipe a little lower if you want to help prevent this. I do have to adjust the gate valve once every few weeks, but it's generally pretty consistent, as long as you have an ATO.
