Marineland 25W Heater
Having problems with my Marineland 25W heater, do they have a break in period or something? Followed the directions perfectly. Cannot seem to figure out why my tank won't get above 73 deg. It's cold in the house, yes, but I've never had a heater not be able to combat with the ambient temp. The red light on the thermostat stays on constantly and I have it set at 80 deg.
The tank is a 5.5 gallon, and the heater is directly in front of the HOB filter flow. |

How cold is it in your house? I had two 200 watt heaters that couldn't keep up in 75g water. It's about 68-65 degrees in my house and the tank is open top rimless. When i would turn the house heat down, the tank temp would also go down.

I had a 25 watt eheim heater on my sons 10 gallon tank and noticed that heater was always on so I got him a 50 watt heater and it is working much better, easy to keep temp. I live in So Cal but the house temp is usually in the 60's.

I have 2 visitherms on my 40 . A 100w and 150w and they just flat out are crap in my opinion . I don't know what model you have , but if its the visitherm , I ran into the same issue . When my lights were on through the day , my temp would climb to 78-80 then at night drop around 72-73 . If you keep your house below 70 , you ll probably need a bigger model if you stick worth marineland visitherms . I'm switching to eheim jäger , as I have heard nothing but good about them and how they keep your temp up .
But even with other brands , if you house temp stays low like mike (65-67) then you ll probably need a bigger heater than the recommended . A lot of them have a safety , and shut off when the inside gets too hot . |
