Reef octopus or aquamaxx
I am considering buying a reef octopus diablo dcs250 or a aquamaxx series equavilant skimmer that will perform for a sps dominated tank or any other protien skimmers. . I currently have a mtc HSA1000 protien skimmer but it's too big and the pump to run it is loud not energy efficient. Any suggestions?

I purchased the Reef Octopus Diablo DCS300 just before Thanksgiving (Replaced my Reef Octopus SSS1000 that I used on my 120) for my 300 gallon DT plus 135 gallon sump. Must say that I am absolutely amazed with its performance! It is super quiet, easy to adjust and clean. I would definitely recommend the Reef Octopus skimmer!

Aquamaxx for a couple reasons. Their pumps are better and their plumbing design is better. Not to mention the balance of their skimmers and lack of problems with overflowing. Reef ocs seem to be real sensitive to sump level where as the aquamaxx skimmers have a fairly big sweet spot. Italian pumps over chinese any day imo.

I was also checking out the reef dynamics skimmers and they seem very impressive. I love the collar design but not sure about performance ?

its so hard picking out a skimmer that you have no idea how it performs. im sure they are all good but i want a good skimmer that will work for a sps dominated tank.

Drae thanks for your comments on these threads. I am struggling to find an EM300 anywhere. It appears they are out of stock everywhere. If you know where I can find one, please shoot me a pm. Thank you.

Many feel Reef Dynamics are over priced due to not having many of the gimmicks other companies use. Yes they are a bit more money however they do perform extremely well and if they fit your budget they are worth a good look

I like the aquamaxx skimmers and reef dynamics although the reef octopus does have more GPH don't know how much more effective it is because of that but I am leaning towards the aquamaxx I might just pull the trigger ?
