Bubble tip anemone trouble
Hi there,
I need help desperately with my bubble tip anemone I got a few days ago. I Am not sure if I should take it out or if it's safe to keep as it keeps producing this grey slime which is everywhere in my tank also it leaves tiny parts of it self around the tank and it is also a dark greenish colour around the disc when it is ment to be yellow. It is attached to a rock however but Is like very floppy also the mouth is different colour to the disc but it is closed. Please can someone help! Thank you

QHow long has you tank been up and running for..? It should be at the minimum of six months old before you add an anemone.

Give it some time. Its seriously bleached and definitely in trouble. If you got it from a fish store I would call them back right away and have them trade it out for a much healthier one. Otherwise it isnt good that its loosing pieces thats usually a pretty bad sign but if it can hold on still thats a really good sign. I would say its right in between dying and saveable. Try to spot feed it a little every other day and make sure your lights are good. Otherwise I would just be patient and see how it does over a few more days. They usually go through a few problems when they are first put into new aquariums and then they can come right out of it when they decide they are happy. I hope it makes it for you.

Yeah, if the tank is under six months it seriously limits the chances of it surviving.

If you have ammonia in your tank, you have a problem. That and nitrite are part of a cycle and should not show up in an established tank.

5 months and ammonia is not very good for the little guy. Maybe ask the pet store if they can hold the bubble for you for another month or so while you correct your tank? |

Did you test for ammonia immediately after a water change? I would test before a water change and test freshly made saltwater before adding it to your tank. To be honest it looks like your BTA has bleached as mentioned above and is already in bad shape.

For some reason i cant see your last pic but looking at the ones in the 1st post i dont think you have a bubble tip anemone.
Can you post a link to what lights you have? Also what size tank?

Ok that pic works now. I am guessing you have a sebae but almost looks like a carpet anemone not a bubble tip. Also if your light is that 11 watt version then you deff dont have enough light for that anemone and if the tank is small enough for that light then the tank isnt big enough.
The anemone is bleached but doesnt look bad enough yet that it will die, but you would have to make changes to your lights fast. I wouldnt trust the api ammonia test, alot of people get readings of. 25 even though they dont have any. What are your other tests? Nitrate, salinity, temp ect?

Could you please suggest a suitable lighting for that tank please? As I would like to keep some soft corals as well as anemone(30l tank)
My parameters are all good and my salinity is about 1.023-1.024

T5's, LED's or Metal Halides. Plenty of options for what you want.
For a budget the reefbreeders LED's work very nice. Also API test kits never show 0 .25 ammonia is fine, if you checked with any other test kit, I'm reasonably sure it would show zero. If you get any corals invest in non-api test kits. |

You should keep your alkalinity stable at 1.025 (some even say 1.026) to keep this anemone.

ohhh an 8 gal tank is not a good idea for an anemone especally for someone just starting out, that small of a tank can get swings fairly quickly. even so the anemone will get to big for that tank in a very short time.
not sure what your plans for fish will be but your gonna be stuck with 1 small fish like a clown goby or such. I would actually say just keep the light you have but return the anemone, that light will be fine for soft corals, zoas ect. but your tank isn't big enough for any anemone except maybe a maxi mini.

That small of a tank you will have a hard time keeping it healthy, just a little evaporation will have large swings in salinity, I'd return it now and wait a while until you try another anemone.

when you take it out be careful you don't tear the foot, take your time, they can be hard if stuck to the rock. a few tricks to have them let go is point a powerhead at it, and use an icecube and rub it along the foot. as long as it isn't turning to mush or stinks it is still alive.
