upgrade question

when upgrading to a larger tank(going from 28 to 40) will I
have a cycle. I will have to add more sand and water. will
be using everything else from 28 gallon. I am concerned
about my two clown fish.

It is best to cycle any new rock you are going to add in either the new tank or a seperate container. If all the new rock you use is pre-cycled and you use all new dry (washed) sand (there is a danger of starting a cycle if you reuse your existing sand) and your existing live rock you will not have a cycle.

upgrade question

When I upgrade my new tank will be in a different place(won't be for awhile) so that I can cycle all the new sand and rock I get. Then I will switch everything over. Of course I plan in doing a lot bigger upgrade though. I strongly recommend getting new sand. Re using sand has given me a lot of problems

Yes, I would recommend using new sand. Reusing your old sand can kick up a lot of stuff and spike your tank.
