tank stand question?

hello everyone, thanks for looking at this post. my question is the piece of wood that is inside my 55 gallon long tank stand where u would put the canister filter or a refugium is breaking. if i take that piece of wood out of the stand would anything happen to the stand or should i put something under that piece of wood so it dont break. any suggestion on what i should do?

It all depends, stands are as unique as the aquariums we put on them. It may or may not be a load bearing piece of wood. If you could send pictures it would be helpful.

the bottom piece is more like it got pushed down from the weight of something being there because it was too heavy. its a used tank stand.

Really can't say anything for sure without a picture. It would make sense to me that a horizontal "shelf" wouldn't be essential and load bearing, but you never know. You could pull it out and have the whole stand sway like a rope ladder! Or it may do nothing. I think your safest bet would be to get a piece of MDF cut to the exact interior size, paint it to protect it from moisture, then just lay it directly on top of the broken piece. Hopefully there's enough strength around the edges to support the new piece.

Gotta see a pic to really help, hopefully it's not crushing/failing under weight of tank.
