Do you acclimate your Copepods?

I'm trying to make sure I keep as many alive as possible.

The reason I'm asking is because last night I bought a bottle of large red Tigger pods and there were a lot of them. I floated the bottle in my soon to be 10/G pod tank and dumped them in 20 minutes later. I went and ate dinner and come home. I didn't see that many as I did when I first dumped them in. Maybe they're all in the sand, cheato, and rocks. Hoping I didn't shock and kill them. Any opinions?

They spread out into the sand, rock and chaeto. Temp acclimating is fine, I've never drip acclimated pods..

Float the bottle for 20 or 30 minutes and then dump them right in.

Just float for 15 minutes or so and dump them in.

I am transporting pods tommorow in a 5 hour ride. Obviously the water temperature will drop quite a bit. Will they live through this or should I heat the water they are in? They are in a 5 gallon bucket with 7 lbs of live rock

The temp in your vehicle should be fine.

Agreed. If you are really worried or want to go the extra mile.. wrap the bucket in news paper and tape a few hand warmers to it.

My best advice is add to your display at night so they can find spots before getting eaten.
Pretty hard to see them unless at night w/ a flashlight usually.

Or into your refugium where they will multiply.

+1 on putting the pods into the refugium. And the trip from the refugium to the DT should be downhill, with no pumps or sterilizers involved. Just let them float down. That is why refugiums should be above the DT, never below.

I was assuming his 10g pod tank was sepperate and not a fuge, but of course if I misread that fuge is where they go.

Yeah, I put most in the fuge. Put some in DT because nearly all my fish are in QT.

I have 2 scooter blennys and a salifin blenny in my DT right now.
