too many hiding places!

Three days in and I've barely seen the shrimps and emerald crabs that came with my CUC. I have too many nooks and crannies in my rock work. Well, too many for me! Probably just right for them.

Yep. Good for them to have lots of places to hide, but bad for me since I can't see how they're doing. Or if they're still even alive. Ah well. Will watch over time and see.

Crustaceans are nearly all nocturnal. Most fish are diurnal. I have done a fair number of coral reef night dives. The fish tuck into holes and crannies. The crustaceans are out and running around. If you were a vampire, you would say you see your crabs all the time and you never see your fish.

I just added a CUC today actually. No shrimp yet, but all the snails are MIA!! As long as there cleaning that green algae off the back of the rocks I got from my buddy's old tank, I'm happy! Lol

What kind of shrimp? Many types are very shy and tend to live their entire lives in rock work under caves.

A few peppermint and one coral banded.

I've seen most (all?) of the peppermints over the last hour or so, peeking out from holes in the rockwork, but I haven't seen the coral banded since a few hours after I added it.

Yeah, it's kind of a bummer, but know they are doing what they need to. I added a small Serpent Star yesterday. Haven't seen a lick of it! It's like nothings changed.

Actually it was kind of funny. When I dropped him in the tank he fell right into a hole in the rock. Done. Gone. That was it.

I bought a Fire Shrimp because they are so darned pretty and he rarely comes out of his cave when the lights are on. I only know where he is because of his big antenae! I then got 2 Peppermint shrimp to eat the few aiptasia I was growing. The aiptaisia are still there but I rarely see the Peppermints at all. I just hope they are at least eating extra food and stuff off the sand bed.
