New Addition - Scribbled Angelfish
After much consideration, I pulled the trigger on a Scribbled Angelfish from Live Aquaria. Usually priced at $350, I ordered the Large 5-7" female for $200.
I have a 200 gallon FOWLR (current inhabitants include 1 blueface angelfish, 1 goldflake angelfish, 1 sohal tang, and 1 purple tang) -Specific gravity: 1.023 -pH: 8.2 -Ammonia/Nitrite/Nitrate: 0 I know there may be some capability issues here, but I use a social acclimation box that I normally leave the fish in for two weeks and put some mirrors in the tank upon release to let the fish settle in. Wanted to get any tips/advice for those who have taken care of these fish (feeding, behavior, etc.) Also, is there any chance that a female this size will morph into a male? Thanks! |

Congrats on your scribbled, I finally after nearly two years of being on the in stock notification list at Live Aquaria picked one up as well a M-L female. ~$215 delivered. I got her from the same batch as you did. Delivered 3/14/2014. Still in QT right now. Eventually she will go into my 180G FOWLR.
This is my first large Angel and it's probably good it took me almost two years to get one. I don't have too much to offer yet for tips\advice. Thought I read somewhere though that most of them turn to males when they get really big around 7"+ particularly if not paired up with a larger mate\male. Nick

Nick - congrats on the new addition! I am having troubles feeding mine...are you running into any issues/what are you feeding yours? I've offered a variety of foods including: live brine shrimp & live bloodworms to stimulate feeding, spectrum pellets (soaked in garlic), formula 2 flakes, frozen mysis, as well as new era marine grazer.
It hasn't showed interest in ANYTHING but the marine grazer which I saw it pick at, but hasn't been eating for the past two weeks. I see it grazing around the tank, so I know it's hungry, but can't get it to feed and it's noticeable thin. Any advice/help would be much appreciated. Thanks so much. |

I had trouble for the first week. She is slowly coming around. The first thing I got her to eat was bloodworms. She also eats PE Mysis pretty well. But she goes crazy over Broccoli and Nori. If you really want to get something in her I would try some of those if you have not yet. She loves Broccoli and Nori the most I would say so far. Mine will not touch NLS Thera A+ which every other fish I have treats like its a crack pipe. I was shocked how crazy she goes after the veggies.
I also noticed she likes to go after floating foods. Anything that sinks she ignores. Nick

I couldn't get one for the longest time. Divers Den would have one now and then.. Either a huge male I couldn't afford and wasn't looking for or due to the time DD posts their wares I would always miss any others they posted. Been on LA's notification e-mail list for almost two years. Got a notification one night and there were none left when I got to the e-mail several hours later. back on the list and then FINALLY they got a bunch in and even put em on sale. I even got the notification in time and got the purchase made this time... ![]() ![]() Nick
