Tunze 5017 and Ehiem 9/12 mm hose

The Tunze auto-topoff comes with some black hose which looks like airline tubing but is actually a little bit bigger. Probably a metric size. It slips inside the hose connection on the pump.

Most of the pump problems people report on this unit, noise, poor output, failure, are actually due to the hose becoming clogged. I know that because mine was showing the classic symptoms and I fixed it by taking the hose out to the garage and blowing it out with an air compressor.

If you are having trouble, just try blowing thru the hose. If you can't, then the pump can't either.

I discovered that eheim green 9/12mm hose fits over the pump fitting perfectly, and because it is bigger there is less pipe friction (I'm from Texas, pipe friction is something we are born knowing about down here).

Replace your black hose with the ehiem hose and suddenly your old Tunze pump will be quiet as a mouse and function like new.
