Do you have a DI cartridge on your setup? If so, is it bicolored (more like different shades of brown than a different color). If I had to guess and blindly replace something it'd be the DI resin. BRS has good prices. Also check out the nifty inexpensive dual-probe monitor that will let you check TDS after RO and sediment cartridges but before deionization, and the other checks the final product after DI. Must have for a RO unit, IMO. Can save you money by preventing premature cartridge/resin/membrane replacement - and extra $'s on late replacement when you're fighting phosphates, nitrates and metals in your tank.

3 TDS is not that high. What's your raw tap water test at?

Check your output before DI and after DI. That will tell you if your prefilters / membrane need to be changed or your DI.

bumping this...
the output after the membranes is 4 tds. the sediment filter is brown, ordered a replacement. there is no di resin cannister, so i ordered a canister. when i get it, i assume the di goes online after the membranes?
never really paid much attention to it and ive been doing this for over 5 years...

Most people running these units do indeed have a low tds reading after the membranes. For example, i have 2-3tds after the membrane. The Di will polish off the rest giving you 0tds. 4 tds is not bad after the sediment filters and membrane. The DI resin cannister will bring it down to 0 no problem. The higher your TDS is before the resin the more frequently youll have to change the DI.
