Anyone using a Water Blaster pump externally?

Im thinking about using the water blaster hy16000 on my closed loop and wanted to see if anyone that is using any of the water blaster pumps externally are experiencing heat/water temp issues as a result of the pump?

Hi Steve,
I just got a water blaster to run as my return pump. I haven't noticed any heating issues yet, and it's super quiet. (been running on the tank for 3 days now)

Thanks fishy! Are you running it internal or external?

I'm running it kinda both. I use flexible tubing for the first two feet along with a pickup tube to set it out of the water in the event of a heat wave to prevent the heating possibility, and leave it in the sump all the rest of the time for heater-less heating.

Fishy, it is a water cooled pump regardless of if plumbed internal or external. You will see no difference.

tkeracer619,
I understand that the "pump" portion of the unit is water cooled, but the "motor" part is generally cooled by the medium which it is surrounded by. Unless these pumps have an internal water jacket that runs through the actual motor unit?
Either way, the expected change is negligible, it's just more for piece of mind. lol
Thanks for the feedback though.

any pictures of the pump in action/plumbed would be great to. Do the pumps vibrate at all or hum?

The flat area under the impeller is a metal plate. This is where most of the heat is directed from the motor effectively water cooling the entire block. The plastic casing on the motor is an insulator. Yes it does radiate heat but it is minimal compared to the wet side. This is how the motor is able to stay at operating temperature when external without fins or fans.

They are efficient pumps and are moving a lot of water for the heat input as long as you keep head pressure down. Plan the plumbing accordingly.
