powder blue tangs are a problem...they need big tanks with alot of swimming space...i would say atleast 220. they die in small tanks with ich..
how big is your tank??

Did you notice anything different about him the last time you saw him? Did you look behind the tank? It's possible he could have jumped out of the tank. If not, he's probably just hiding in the rocks.

Usually they dont hide unless they are stressed and they get stressed easily in smaller tanks. Once they get sick they bring ich in the tanks killing others. Donno anyone who had those for long in less than 240gal tank

What a shame, sorry for you loss. Any ideas of what happened to him? Do any of the other fish in your tank look sick?

I've gone through three blue tangs that all seems fine for about 6 weeks and then just die in a couple days.

A properly quarantined fish no matter how ich prone put in no matter how small of a tank will not spread or die of ich!!
How small minded and lack of info for those responses received!! Yes a powder blue should be in a large tank, like most tangs. 6ft plus tanks and 180 plus volume for them to be happy at full growth. Your tang could have been 1/2" in size as you didn't state the size and been perfectly happy in the tank it was in for the time being. I am sure nobody here that has responded and basically put the OP on post has put a tang in quarantine in a tank under 220 gallon right? OP what is your tank parameters and size? What is your current inhabitant list also?

Let's calm down and be helpful. I don't think anyone meant to be offensive. Everyone wants to help, people just express themselves in different ways.
Please don't continue the debate among each other, just address the issues at hand. Thank you.

PBTs are not beginner fish. But, with proper quarantine and given enough room and the proper diet; they aren't that difficult. Something is wrong at your end.
