Led shimmer
What do we consider most important when trying to get this:
1 - light fixture 2 - height of fixture above tank 3 - surface agitation 4 - all of the above |

1 & 3 however, #1 effects #2. A good fixture plus surface agitation = good shimmer.

I have great shimmer with my Reef Breeders Photon 32" a foot above the water on my 220. I had the cheap Chinese led's over my 180 and it didn't shimmer at all. So I agree with slief.

I get pretty nice shimmer off my Lumentek 240 Pro...VERY similar fixture to the Photon 32 mentioned above. My metal halides gave a little better shimmer, but these are better than I expected.

Well, the LEDs have been bought so I'm stuck. Playing with 2 & 3. I gets better the higher I go but intensity drops. A work in progress..

want shimmer? I love my kessil a360we. Problem with most led's out there is that they do not implement led array chips under a lense. unlike kessils = point source light = unreal shimmer. The negative to point source is shadowing. this can be good and bad. good for shadow lines and depth and definision. bad as some parts of coral willnot get light causing some bleaching. so point source light like MH need supplimentation to combat this.

Led shimmer
+1
The shimmer on from my Kessil is even more than when I had MH. I happen to love it. I can see though easily that others may not. Also, as far as shadowing goes, there are shadows on actual reefs in the ocean...in case anyone wondered.

Sorry for the crummy quality....I can try again if you like

cant see the video or the shimmer?
If I had to describe it, it looks kinda trippy...like the ripples on the water are separating the colors of the individual LEDS. If the shimmer didn't show up well, Ill use a real camera.
