Lighting Options 50 Cube
So I've been browsing the forum for a while, decided to start posting.
I'm getting ready to setup a 50 gallon (24x24x20) I'm looking into Metal Halide options and honestly I'm a little overwhelmed. The tank will be mixed reef, but I want to be able to keep Maxima clams, Nems, and SPS at some point. My question is I saw the tank mount Bimini sun by Hamilton (looking at the 150W 14,000K hqi phoenix bulb one) would this support the guys in this tank? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Yes it will do the job, if you have the option get the M81 ballast instead of the electronic.

Thanks for the response and heads up on the ballast, I do believe Hamilton gives the option on ballast with this light. I was also considering running some T5's along with this light or just doing a halide/T5 combo unit. Thoughts on that... |

Either way works fine. Having a couple T5's not only adds to the light but gives options on the over all color of the lighting.

The MH light fixture I'm looking at is Bimini 150 Watt HQI by Hamilton dimensions are 10.5"L x 11.5"W x 2.5"H so not sure if that's the nano one. I'm also looking at MH/T5 combo by Hamilton the Cebu Sun Systems which is 175w 4-24w T5's

I am not a reflector guy Jack is sirreal63 is. I would get a M81 ballast Aqua Medic sells one it is called a cube, or get the Hamilton one see if Jack can recommend a great reflector and get a Phoenix 14K bulb. That will rock your tank, The light you linked looks great just not sure if you will get the correct spread on it. It states it is for a nano.

It's pretty much the same reflector that is on all 150's, just the case is smaller. Adding the T5's is a win/win if you can make it look nice. If you were going with a canopy, there are much better reflectors, but for the price the Bimini isn't bad.
