Eshopps 75 HOB
Just bought a eshopps 75 hob, got it hooked up and printed,my problem is it's over filling the cup. Produces allot of bubbles and the only adjustment is on the outlet that suppose to control the skimming level and with it wide open it suppose to barely skim. No matter how set it I can't seem to get it to stop over foaming. Open to ideas

Seems to be a common thing.
-How long has it been up and running? -Did you prime it before plugging in (by priming I mean filling the main tube up repeatedly with something like a measuring cup either thru the collection cup's center hole or into the main tube if you remove the collection cup)? This priming routine helps for some reason. I guess it purges air from the in/out lines. -Did you rinse the insides before installing (water or white vinegar)? Manufacturing oils can cause some funky bubbling. How high is the break-line between mostly water and where "foam" starts? I try to get mine about at the bottom of the cup. Worse case - secure the overflow tube where it drains back into the tank. That'll wash out any residual stuff on the insides and get the thing to break-in. It shouldn't cause any harm, your just pushing some water around and you'll get the benefit of oxygenating the water. If yours didn't come with a silencer for the top of the airtube, make one sometime. Simply little pill bottle and a little RO tubing and it will completely eliminate the air sucking sound. I also try to not turn mine off whenever possible. Only for water changes. I use a turkey baster to suck the skimmate from the cup. And I wipe out the center tube and inside of the lid with little strips of paper towels whenever it gets gunked up. Turning on/off causes mine to get a little erratic, And for some reason the longer it runs, the more efficient it gets. |

I have the Eshopps psk-100h same as yours just has a 4in main body. I have zero problems adjusting the water level in the skimmer. Make small adjustments on the gray output tube and check on it in half an hour. Clockwise raises the water level and counterclockwise lowers it.
I have my water level at the bottom of the skimmer cup. My first two days I had a lot of crazy foam because I didn't rinse my skimmer out, but now I have normal sized bubbles/foam. I have no bio-load as I am cycling so I don't have any skimmate currently. Take your time adjusting this thing. Steady as you go. lol. Use a cap from a 2 ltr. pop bottle to cover the top of the gray output post which will quiet the gurgling. Like the poster above me said use a pill bottle to make a silencer. I did both of these already and all I can hear now is the slight hum of my pump. Good luck and happy reefing!!! |
