Pistol and goby?
Currently Have Clown, 6 line wrasse, Royal Gramma, and a B\W Chromis. Also a few Snails crawling around. My question is I want to get a clean up crew for my sand. My friend that has a tank said a Pistol shrimp and goby would tag team the issue and get a long.
Does this sound like good advice and be fine with what I have? I had a Diamond goby a week ago but learned the hard way that they jump out when I found him on the floor (RIP Mr. Goby). Since then I have attached a plastic extension on the backup of my lid. *forgot tank details 20 gallon, Pro. Skimmer, Canister, and heater. 15-17lbs live rock. |

What size tank? How long has it been set up?
A goby/pistol shrimp combo is not really a part of your cleanup crew, but they are very cool to have. |

20 gallon and I took it over from a friend. He had it up for about 3 years and got tired of it. I have had it about a month and all lvls are on point.

I would say that you are already slightly overstocked. Also your sixline & chromis will make adding anything to the tank difficult.

Yea my sixline most territory im my 40b, in a 20 yours will eventually become extremely territorial and may lead to trouble...
Diamond gobys dont pair, you have to research each individual goby to see if they are shrimp gobies ... I have a orange stripe goby and tiger pistol and its probly the coolest part of my tank... They littterally live together, and whenever pistol is looking for rocks for their home the goby is rite by his side protecting him.... |

Depends on the goby your looking at, but if it was a Randall's or Yashia paired with the smaller red banded pistol (aka candy cane) then you would be fine on adding those small fish in... Looks like the tank is pretty mature if it was running 3 years so rock should handle the bio load as long as your skimmer and filter are keeping up. The pair won't do anything to help wi cleaning except maintain the sand bed in their little area.
Like mentioned, your going to have issues with the six line possibly being a bully, and possibly with the gramma and chromis (those b&w are just like any other damsel, just given the chromis title lol) So as long as no fighting took place you should be fine. |
