Can you post pics of your other fish that look like this? Have you tested all your water parameters lately? Any new fish added recently? Do you QT?

Weird splotches can mean something infectious is being passed around the tank... but it also could be due to a water quality issue.

They others aren't as bad as him and can't tell. I am battling ich and treating the entire tank with CP today. Ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 50 or 60. A little high I know.

Looks like he has a secondary bacterial infection from the splotches and a sore starting on the tail.

Dosing CP in a DT is "iffy" at best because you have no way of knowing how much med is being absorbed by the LA & substrate. Or do you have another QT set up?

+1 Secondary infections are very possible when battling ich, and I believe I have read that both CP & copper can suppress the immune system. Making a bacterial infection even more likely.

I have yet to read one CP "success story" when used to treat ich in a DT w/rock & sand. Seems like just some weird red hair algae grows post treatment.

Expect to lose all algae; this can be a lot of additional waste for your bio-filter to handle.

This. I tried CP in my DT and it didn't work. Best to dose it in a dedicated hospital tank where you have more control.

And I know CP is sensitive to light. But are any lights acceptable. I have a bit of sunlight that could come in. It's pretty much indirect sunlight. I could cover up my window so it would come in but could florescent be used or anything?

Lighting

I have a 45 watt light above my tank and I got it covered mainly. Is this too much?

I don't like putting any LR or substrate in a QT/HT - it introduces variables that complicate treatment. I prefer to use ceramic media in a HOB filter combined with Bio-spira for a biofilter. Bio-spira is one of the few bacteria-in-a-bottle products that actually works.
