Lighting Recommendations Needed
The tank is a former reef converted to FOWLR. The conversion was done a while ago and at the time I removed the MH lighting and replaced it with 4 x 60" T5's driven by a Vue660 from CoralVue. Unfortunately that ballast has been a complete bust...has already been back to the manufacturer twice (first for repair then for replacement) and just stopped working again. I thought it was the bulbs so I bought new ones and they lit for about 10 minutes before the tank went dark once again.
So, at this point I'm done trying to get that ballast to work and am looking at alternatives. If that means scrapping everything and starting over from scratch, so be it...as long as what I put in gets the job done and will last. I'm happy to reuse my T5's & endcaps and just replace the ballast & wiring but I'm also WIDE open to other suggestions like LED's. The tank is 72"L x 24"D x 30"H and as you can see the lighting is inside an enclosed canopy...yes it's ventilated with multiple fans and I have it attached to the top of the canopy. The picture is an old one from when the tank was first built and had MH lighting but you get the idea. I'd like it to be well lit to show off the fish and rockscape. As well, it would be good if it provided sufficient light for zoos and other easy to keep softies. |
