Auto shut off

I have a auto top off,and lately the valve isn't shutting off.I can manually raise the float to shut off flow, but it builds up pressure and start flowing around the float.Do these go bad,or is something else wrong.

Assume you mean a manual float? They do wear out - sounds like you may need to replace it.

I reinstalled the valve,it shuts off, and pressure builds up and water starts leaking around the float switch valve. So the valve is not working right

if you're talking about a auto shutoff valve on a ro/di unit not working, good chance the check valve is leaking (just off the membrane housing).

Thanks das75,I don't have a check valve on the ro-di unit, the system is not tied into a pressurized system.

Ok went and took the auto shut off valve apart again and hooked it back up.The same thing is still happening. The valve isn't closeing and water pressure builds and starts flowing again.I have a new auto shut off valve and float switch on order.

not for feeding a pressurized system but you do need the check valve for the ASV to work

take a look at the buckeyehydro link, nice write up and diagram last page shows the check valve.

I recently was banging my head with my unit as wouldn't shutoff either. I thought my spare check valve tested okay, so then replaced ASV (had spare from few years back when went through this before) still wouldn't stop. Ended up getting a in-line check valve and now all good.

The way I did mine is like this:

Normally closed solenoid attached to output. Solenoid is plugged into a timer. Timer goes off daily to fill the container. There is a manual float valve near the top of the container. If the solenoid fails the mechanical valve will stop it. Then there is a float switch at the top of the container tied to the RO unit itself. If the solenoid fails, the mechanical float fails, then the switch shuts the whole system down. I also have a water alarm on the rim so if something happens to the switch, then the alarm starts to freak out.
