Sump Suggestions for 240 Build

Hi,

I am in the process of deciding if I should go with a custom build or buy a "standard sump". One of the things that I like and it seems that it would cut down on noise are sumps with the drains that overflow into the filter sock instead of draining directly into the filter sock. Also will these sumps handle a tank this size?

The max on my overflow would be approx 1/2 inch. According the calculated sump volume on here I would need roughly 20 gallons.

Using the following input parameters

Tank Length = 96 inches
Tank Width = 24 inches
Height of Water above Overflow = 2 inches
Sump volume is calculated as

Sump Volume need to handle tank overflow = 19.9 Gallons

Below are some of the sumps I am considering...I am open to other suggestions as well.

1st- Elite Aquatics M2 sump

http://www.elite-aquatics.net/index....&product_id=33

2nd-Aqueon Proflex 4

http://www.aqueonproducts.com/products/proflex-sump.htm

Thanks for the Help

IMO, skip the Aqueon one.

Also, as much as the fancy acrylic ones cost, I'd find a used 75 or bigger tank and make your own.

I'm in the process of turning a used 75 tank into the sump for my 215. $50 for the tank, $20 for the acrylic from a friend, $5 for silicone. No it doesn't have fancy sock holders or look spectacular, but it works.

I did the same thing that Robb says and for about the same price. Try asking a LFS if they have an acrylic guy who could make you a sump with your specific design and measurements

So I am thinking of a custom build sump that will drain on each end to match the overflows on the ends of the tank. There will be a skimmer section on one side and a refugium on the other side with baffles to house the return pump in the middle. Will I have issues with this set up with flow in fuge or ditch the fuge idea and put extra rock where the fuge would be...?

Thoughts?

I had my old sump with drain (from all lines into one section)--->return--->fuge and fed the fuge off a t on the return line. I put a ball valve on the t section to control the flow.

I'm setting up my new on the same way.

i would look at synergy reef i bought their 34 and love it so quiet honestly probably the quietest set up i have ever heard. specially if your skimmer likes deeper water. I went with their 34. and will never go back to building my own looks better and is designed very well

I looked synergy reef and I am concerned about the size and if it would be big enough to handle my tank. That's why I believe I will have to go custom.
