Question on Mechanical Filtration
I had been running a hang on the back biocube airstone powered protein skimmer, as well as a hang on the back aqueon filter. Today I decided to clean the latter because it had a lot of gunk in it, however unfortunately when cleaning I broke a part of it :/ I took the aqueon filter out and it cleared up a lot of space in the tank (my tank is sumpless). Do I need to get another aqueon filter, or will the skimmer do the job, or is there another filtration system one would suggest for a sumpless aquarium.

Or is there a way to repair the filter. I broke the covering that stops fish and what not from being sucked up into the filter.

I forgot to mention my livestock. There are 2 ocellaris clownfish and various mushroom corals in the tank right now. I intend to keep the tank filled mainly with mushroom corals but I would like to add one branching sps coral at some point as a centerpiece as well as one more fish. Water changes are usually done every week if this information is helpful.

If your talking about the strainer that goes over the end of the tube you can buy those on amazon for about $5 plus shipping. Some may even be prime eligible. You could also just make one by putting a cap on the end of the tube and drilling a bunch of holes in the tube itself.
