Inhabitants
I am setting up a 75 gallon reef, has refrug, protein filter, live sand and adding live rock this week. I am not wanting to overcrowd the tank and do not want to have a nitrate problem with too many inhabitants. What is a safe number of fish and a safe number of invertebrates for a 75 gallon tank. I am planning to add live coral and a sea anemone or two. Tnxs for help figuring this out!

Depends lol. Based on what you decide to put in. Size isnt always a determing factor when it comes to fish, but it can also be behavior. You will need to research what you are interested in putting in the tank.

Hi PowX welcome to RC. I just started my reefing January so i am not an expert but I am also coming from freshwater. I started my 120g build in January and just put my first corals in it 2 days ago. There are quite a few new things to learn regarding marine tank. You can toss out the rule of thumb for stocking since it is entirely different than freshwater.
You really need to plan your tank far in advance for stocking. research what fish you like to see if they are even compatible to be in a tank of your size, are they reef safe as in not eating your corals, peaceful or aggressive etc. Same goes for your inverts. My tank will also be a mixed reef (corals and fish) but I am only doing a light stocking of fishes. 4 - 6 nice looking specimens along with a good mix of soft and lps corals. In a nutshell research, research and more research because to say "10 fish in a 75" will be fine or some other screwy rule of thumb will likely end in disaster.

Mrramsey there has decent advice, if you ask me. Work out which fish you like, research them, ask on the sticky thread above, and check fish compatibility charts.
Add your most peaceful fish first and your most aggressive last. Also, please read up on anemones before adding one, and wait at least six months. You've come to the right place! Happy reading and happy reefing!

Ty for the advice! I will continue to read up and research. My wife and I ordered a book on eBay that gives specifics on a bit over 100 of the most popular saltwater fish so we are ensuring compatability. I will continue to research and Tnxs again for the responses!

Liveaquaria.com is also a good reference. You can filter by tank size etc. Good luck!
