Help with skidish fish...

So I've a purple fire fish that just doesn't seem to want to come out of the rocks unless it's feeding time. Even then when I step close to the tank it's gone. My concern is feeding most of the time it won't get more then 2-3 pellets. Is there a way to help keep it out more so I can at least feed it.

how long has it been in your tank? Mine took a good 2 weeks before they would tolerate me in the room let alone close to the tank, might try getting a second if you have the room for another fish, they are more confidant in pairs.

From your signiture you have 4 fish in a 40b, you have room for another I would try adding a second firefish. Like I said they are much bolder when in a pair. Also if he does come out during feeding watch and see if the other fish pay it any attention. The clowns might be harassing it.

Fish that are out in the water, actively swimming will help. In the wild when a fish doesn't see any other fish around this is an instinctual cue that a predator is around. If he thinks a predator is around he will hide.

The clowns don't pay it no mind. So it's not them harassing and the blenny is still in the QT. Will the 2 not fight? That's why I didn't get 2 at the start

No, the two will buddy up, have had several pairs that were introduced at different times and they have always found each other and stayed close to each other.

Where is the tank located at? They are a skittish fish by nature IMO, so a TV going on and off, a stereo, a door slamming, etc might keep them timid ALL the time.

When I had mine it was always hiding. I had it for 6+months. It will only come out to eat. Sometimes it doesn't come out at all.
