QT necessary if LFS does it?

My LFS quarantines every livestock with copper for a few days and then puts them in the display tanks. Do I still need to QT them if I buy them from

1) His DT?
2) Directly from his QT Tank?

Thanks

Putting fish in copper for a few days does nothing. The fish would have to be isolated, and treated with copper for 30 days at therapeutic levels to eliminate ich/marine velvet. But then there are other diseases (i.e. flukes, brook) that copper doesn't even treat.

Will the LFS pay for you to replace everything that dies if something new that comes in destroys everything else? If not, I would setup a QT

No LFS uses copper at the therapeutic level to kill ich! They usually only keep it at 0.1-0.15ppm, enough to prevent velvet. Cryptocaryon irritans needs at least 0.35ppm to work.

In addition, a fish has to undergo cupramine treatment for 30 days to eliminate ich. LFS constantly introduces new fish, which come with new ich, so the clock keeps on resetting.

The bottomline is, a proper quarantine protocol (4 weeks of cupramine/prazipro treatment followed by 2 weeks of observation) can only be done by hobbyists themselves.
