Marriage not made in heaven...

I purchased two percula clowns as babies... and have had them in a 50 gallon tank together for about 5 months... They used to swim together... then I saw the typical displays between them trying to sort out dominance.. HOWEVER last night I came home to see the displays get VERY nasty.. with one clown really getting beat up. I removed the clown that was getting the brunt of the aggression and placed him in my QT tank.

What are my options? I wanted a pair of percula clowns...? Can I reintroduce the percula clown in QT after say 4 weeks to see if they bond?

My clowns were doing the same thing. I caught both of them and put them in neutral water, AKA a bucket or QT tank. Put them in there the same time. Then move a few rocks in your DT. It may not look that different for you but for them is a whole new territory. Once you finished moving some rock put the pair back in the DT together. They should reform a pair. I did that with my clowns and they are a happy little couple again. Happily attacking my hand rather than each other.

Good Luck

i would have taken the aggressor out, rearranged the rock a little and then put him back in after the other one was healed up.

are you sure he didn't deserve a little beat down for not taking out the trash or hogging the remote or i can think of any number of things she mighta thumped him for.

Sometimes they just won't pair up. Especially a larger passive fish and a smaller aggressive one. If they don't work it out on the second attempt trade in the smaller for a few months and then try again with a new fish. That has worked twice for me.

Mine established dominance through the bag that one was floating in (the other was in the tank). Once I let the bagged one out, they were almost finished with their dance and have been paired now for almost 4 years.
