anyone change light spectrum to curb problem algae?
Hi, I use 2~250w MH's on my 75. One side is Radium, the other side was an old Phoenix. 3 months ago, I changed the Phoenix to a 10k Ushio, after a week, the Ushio side started to get slimy, brown stringy algae mostly on sps growth tips . So I switched the Ushio to a new Phoenix and the algae complety went away. Now 3 months later its starting again, only on the Phoenix side, under the Radium, no problem algae! So now I'm gonna try a 20k in place of my Phoenix. Hopefully the bluer bulb will help as it did when the phoenix was new. Anyone else use bluer spectrum to help with algae issues? 0 ppm No3/ 0.01ppm PO4 BTW.

It certainly works shifting color to avoid algae growth which is why we need to replace our MH and T-5 bulbs frequently, as they age they shift towards the red/yellow spectrum which promotes algae growth. If you shift too far towards the blue you may start to lose some coral coloration however.
