Welcome! As far as the heater you can get by with one. Just make sure it's rated for the volume of water you will have between the tank and the sump. I keep all equipment in the sump.
My biggest piece of advice is to utilize a quarantine protocol. Oh...and read, read, read! You'll never stop learning in this hobby

For heaters I would get two 150 watt Eheim Jaggers, and yes, place them in your sump or one in the overflow and one in the sump. You are better off with two heaters at half the wattage than one 300 watt heater. If one fails (they frequently stick in the on position when they fail) you have a better chance of finding and correcting the problem before your system crashes. If you can afford it a good controller is a very nice piece of equipment to have.

My personal preference, are the Eheim Jager Heaters. I have a 75g tank and a 30g sump. I am using a 300 watt model. You could go with a 250 or the 300. Some people use 2 heaters. I may go this route, once it becomes colder outside. Right now, I have my heater set for 78* on my Apex controller. It barely comes on.

I have my heater, inside my overflow box. It was too long, to place in my sump (chamber were not long enough)

You will also need Live rock (1 lb per gallon, is the norm, you could go a bit less)
Live sand (I use Carib-Sea Aragonite special grade)
Salt Mix of your choice.

Do you plan on keeping just fish (FOWLR - fish only with live rock) or do you plan on adding coral?

I plan on adding coral to my tank.
I also plan on purchasing a Biopellet reactor.
My rock that im getting is Aquamaxx dry reef rock, only because the things i have read that people get parasites when it comes from a different tank. I know eventually my rock will become live rock.
