Water change idea

Hey guys I just realized the weirdest thing, every time we flush the toilet, the toilet is basically doing a water change. So I was wondering if there was a way to do a water change on the tank as simple as pushing a button, using the same idea as pulling the lever on the toilet. What do you guys think?

I use a dual head Reef Filler to do automatic water changes (1% daily spread over many 15 minute periods of the day and night). No button pushing needed as it is on a timer.

I am looking to set up the same thing Randy. I am looking at the liter meter stuff, they can pull/push up to 100+ feet on 1/4 line.

The mechanical flush system many folks use. It is just a valve that allows SW to dump. My bud had on on his 1500G. He had the house plumbed. He went to a valve, and instead of the water going back into the tank, it went out into the yard. He had another valve that was tied into a big SW cistern up on a rack. In it went, this was all into the sump,... a rather big sump, all in his equipment room, and took about 2 minutes. The longest part of his water changes was putting in the salt in the SW container :-).

THere is a member on here that has a real sweet setup that is similar, he has three sumps (at least), one or more for filtration, and two that he switches between for a detritus settlement area, and water change. A real nice setup, but takes lots of space. His equipment room is in the basement I believe. I forget his forum name.

1% daily is the equivalent of changing 26% once a month, so no, i do not think it is a lot.

I discuss it in terms of what it can accomplish here:

Not in depth, no, but in addition to the article above, here's a thread on "continuous" water changes:
