algae/diatoms suddenly concerning

My parameters are the same as always but suddenly I've had a rather large bloom of algaes and diatoms. To the point my snails and crabs have them on their shells.

What could the cause be?

pH 8.1
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates <40ppm

I do have issues with Nitrates. I do a weekly 10% water change but this past week did a 20% hoping to bring them down but it still doesn't. They go right back up to 40. It's never gone over 40 in this tank.

Looks like the pic uploaded sideways

It's part of a new tank. IMHO

The tank is 3 months old now and spiked in its 3-4th week.

Still normal?

Your tank is new...very common. I honestly don't see diatoms. Your sand is spotless. If you had a diatom bloom, you'd know it.

Your nitrate is way too high. You need to do a 50% water change over a weeks time to avoid PH swings and get it low. Macro algae also consumes nitrate/phosphate

I just cleaned the sand lol. The diatoms are all over the glass and equipment. I just cleaned them during the water change.

I added macro a few weeks ago and the levels are still the same.
