Heater thermostat?

Hello all, having some issues with my 100w aquean heater. I think the thermostat is messed up. I'm using it on my 29g biocube and even set at 68-72 it'll heat the tank to 79+ I originally thought this issue was from the metal halides I was running but after moving my tank yesterday and running a marineland single bright led it still didn't fix the issue. The heaters rated to 30 gallons i believe but I have ran a 100w heater on here before with no issues. Should I buy a 50w heater? Thanks in advance!

They are too cheap not to rash and get another one. What's a $30 heater to a several hundred, if not $1000, reef. Buy a quality one for your size. Just my .02

Don't believe those numbers they have preset on the heater. You'll just have to adjust it up or down until you find the "sweet spot" so to say. If it's running a little high now, dial it down a bit and see how the tank reacts for the next 24 hours or so.

they do fail.. many of us run heater controllers or similar to double up on protection via another temp probe/shutoff.

Might need to look into temp controllers. Might as well get a aquarium controller though. Going to get a new heater today.

I would get a heater controller separate form an aquarium controller. Putting too much control into one piece of equipment can cause some serious headaches if it fails. Ranco is an extremely reliable controller for heating/cooling.

Yeah that's the only thing with aquarium controllers. If it messes up you might be faced with a crashed tank. I'm gonna look into the the rancho
controller. Just picked up a aquean "pro" 100w heater up to 30g. So we'll see
