go through the "legacy app" on your computer or IPad if you have ecosmart live, etc.. I had the same thing happen and called their support team. They were quick and very helpful, but wanted me to go through the samething that didn't work before. When I went through the "legacy Vortech" button within the software it updated perfectly!

You should post this in their sponsor forum for a quicker response.. Although I think you are in slave mode, You will need to do a reboot /clear of the controllers memory and start over..

What's the benefit of using Ecosmart live with just the pumps? Do you also have the radions? Never thought there was a need to use the software on just the pumps am I missing something?

They have the full manual for download on the ecotech website that tells you how to do all the programming on the controller fwiw.

As Dapg8gt indicated, your best bet is to post this in the Ecotech forum. Here is a link:

santirvcpla - give us a call at 1-800-785-0338 ext. 2 or e-mail service@ecotechmarine.com and we'd be happy to assist you in getting your VorTech MP40wES running on ESL.

The only thing I can think of is the ability to schedule the pump modes throughout the day and night. without ESL you'd have to manually change the mode using the dial.

I think too that the only way to connect vortechs to EcoSmartLive is by using a ReefLink.

That is correct; a ReefLink is required in order to control VorTechs on EcoSmart Live.
