i've been reefing since '05 and the best investment and purcahsed i ever spent was diving into Apex. everyone should consider not buying coral or fish for 6mos and save up to buy an Apex.
i have an Android smartphone and I have the Apex Fusion app and I can look at my tank specs, temp, pH, what devices are ON and which are OFF wth a quick look on my phone's app. in June i was on an 11-day vacation a 1,000 miles for home. everyday i literally sat on the beach with toes in the sand and looked at my my tank's temp, pH, etc etc. I also have a webcam viewing the tank managed thru apex. one day at the beach i decided to turn on my actinic lights on an hour before they normally do. with one swipe of my figure i turned on my actinics and verified via the webcam....a 1,000 miles away from my tank. apex fusion is mind-blowing and gives me total piece of mind. if any of my parameters like temp too high or too low, if a device didnt turn on at the exact time i programmed it for... apex fusion TEXTS me in a matter of seconds after the event. i can even manage the texted event via the phone instantly by turning stuff like lights off. if my temp goes to high i turn off lights and turn my vortechs on to circulate more water. sorry for sounding like a commercial.... but save your pennies girls and boys.... i think apex fusion is the greatest thing Last edited by skimjim; 08/16/2014 at 08:59 PM. |

ProfiLux and Reef Angel are two other controllers that are pretty popular. The ProfiLux however is VERY expensive. Vertex is also working on the Cerebra but that has been pending release for a couple years now and who knows if and when it will come to fruition. It will also be very expensive compared to controllers like the Apex and Reef Keeper which happen to be the most popular and are a relative bargain when you factor in their features, scalability and options.
Over the years there have been other controllers that hit the market but they never took off or the companies never stood the test of time. Aquatronica and Octopus are a couple that come to mind. Aquatronica has never really taken off and Octopus came and went. Perhaps it was ahead of it's time or perhaps they couldn't compete with the cost, features and function of the previous Neptune Aqua Controllers.
