Tunze Nanostream 6020 Flow Pattern - Not what I expected
I just installed one of the new Tunze Nanostream 6020s and I'm surprised at the way it pushes water.
The flow is much more straight up from the prop than I expected and only 'interfered' with by the cover on the head. Think of putting a regular old style Nano in place and then putting your hand just into the flow on one side. The water is moved in a very broad flow that dissipates quickly because it's not very directional but at the same time has sort of hot spot pointing up from the prop. I understood that it's designed to be put behind rock formations and that's what I bought it for. If the magnet mount wasn't so huge it would help with that implementation. Any other users ? Opinions on the 6020 ? |

Just installed last night and I agree, not what I expected. Doesn't do a good job with water movement horizontally just vertically.
above the power head gets good movement but everywhere else doesn't seem to get much. Most people aren't concerned with water movement above the power head. So far I give it a 1 out of 5 but I've only had it for 12 hours. I may try turning it sideways. Last edited by mkj; 09/05/2014 at 02:31 PM. |

Currently I have 6020 same location as old powerhead" few inches below water line".
I'm thinking this typical powerhead location is wrong for the 6020s. Maybe these 6020 should be at bottom of tank so that the vertical stream they create pulls tank water with it and create current that way. I guess that's why its designed for behind rock work. It just doesn't work efficiently near top of tank. |
