Can someone ID this growth??

Can someone ID this stuff for me? I have a fully cycled tank, its been up and running for 8 months. I came home from work today to see just this 1 rock in bloom.

I have a 60g cube with 10g sump. About 35lbs live rock 2 inches of live sand. Tank is stocked with 2 clowns, 3 purple chromis, 1 royal gramma, 1 yellow clown goby.

I second colonial hydroids.

If they're only on that one rock I'd just yank the rock out.

Thanks for the quick reply Cloak and DiscoCarp. I'm hesitant on removing the rock because I have a new Bubble Tip anemone who has decided that this rock is where it will reside. Its attached itself to the rock.

Is there any other way to remove the Hydroids (or the anemone)?

Can you chisel the rock and get the anemone without getting the hydroids? Failing that you can (maybe) nuke the hydroids with kalk paste (do a very small section each day. Kalk raises pH severely).

IMO you want them gone, but they spread slowly so there's no need to panic.

I am going to try to encourage my BTA to find another location to plant itself. I can point the power head directly at it to make it uncomfortable. Once that is done I will remove the rock from the tank, Kalk it then boil it.

Thanks for the advice!!

I wouldn't boil it. The fumes can be dangerous. Not specifically with hydroids, but I still wouldn't.

You could just let it dry out then cure it again separately. Or check out some of the bleach and acid washing threads in the chemistry sub-forum. But for one rock with hydroids it seems like too much trouble. I might just put it outside until it doesn't stink, then in the garage until I needed some dry rock for something.
