Vodka/vinegar in ato?

I was wondering if I could put vodka/vinegar in my ato to combat no3 and po4? I am not using kalk yet but I am considering switching over from 2 part here soon. Do you think it would mess up the kalk if combined in the ato?

I wouldn't combine the two and I wouldn't put vinegar in the ato. You wouldn't have fine enough control over the dosage.

You might want to look on the reef chemistry forum. Dosing vinegar with kalk is a good combination and many people use it in ATO. I only recently changed from manual top off to ATO (after 16 years of a manual system on a 30g tank, the upgrade to 75 gwith sump necessitated automation). I've never used 2 part, so I ignore those parts of articles.

If you haven't, read this article:

The author, Randy, is on the chemistry forum here frequently if you have specific questions. He is the subject expert, so better to get answers from him than me!

I stand corrected. I still wouldn't do it but Randy is exceptionally trustworthy.

Nice article, thanks for posting that! I'm really trying to figure this out because I want to cut down on manual maintenance. At the same time it is just another thing that could go wrong and have ill side effects.

Great read! I have been having trouble with cyano in my sump. But I want to look into this more before I start dosing.
