Rinse Sand?

Do you rinse your sand?

Live or non-Live Sand, does it matter, in terms of washing it and rinsing it before it goes to the tank?

So rules of thumbs are:
1. Switch off all return pump and wave makers and skimmers .. practically switch off everything?

2. Place it using containers / bag or PVC pipe or whatever.

My next question: how long until I switch these equipments back on?

I absolutely rinse mine. I did not buy the live sand. I would pour the bag in a 5 gal bucket and pour rodi in It and stir. Then dump it down the driveway. I did that about 6 times. It's amazing how much gunk comes out.

Pour in a 5g bucket put it under your tub faucet and stir it till it runs clear! Otherwise you'll have cloudy water for days

I rinsed in a bucket with a hose until it cleared a lot. Then rinsed with rodi to make sure no chloramine or other stuff got transferred. I put in thin layer if sand into tank. Then rocks, then all the sand, then saltwater. It was clear in a day or so.

got it guys thanks!

I can confirm the sand is in .. water is milky but not cloudy

Skimmer seems to be "skimming" now.

I got approx. 1 kg left over rinsed sand ... I assume this damp sand cannot be stored for future purposes? I think they will go rotten, do they?

So, keep it or chuck it?

I'd keep it without a cover so it could dry out...it's only sand after all.
