Aqua Medic Percula 120
Hi, I have bought this tank second hand and I have it set up, however I seem to be having a few issues with the skimmer. Does anyone have any experience with these?
It is the original skimmer that comes with the tank, however, mine seems to fill up with water, into the cup quite a lot. I think this has to do with the water level, and I may have addressed this, I should add, I dont have anything but LR in the tank at the moment. I also dont seem to be able to get it to bubble. Is this right as it isnt actually skimming anything yet? Could do with a bit of help please as this all in one tank didnt come with any instructions |

Hi,
I've got the same tank for 2 years now. The skimmer is junk. I never got it running properly. The company H&S sells a fitting one, which is working really great. The original AquaMedic skimmer needs loads of air to work so you want to use a larger airtube. To regulate the water level in the technic section, you have to adjust the overflow hight and this thing where the blue sponge normaly sits on. But it is lots of work. Hope that helps. Best wishes Mathias |

Thanks for the reply Mathias. I have completely taken out the long black slider from the filter bit. I am not using any of that filter media, I'm going to fill it with LR. Took out all the Bioballs too.
at the top of the air tube I placed a stopper that lets a little bit of air through as this made it a lot quieter. Would you suggest I take this out and would I then have to put up with the rather loud noise? Did yours do this? Sorry for all the questions but I can't seem to find out too much info about on these, good to speak to someone with experience |

Hi,
you do need the filter slider to adjust the water level! You don't need the blue sponge though. The idea to use LR in the chambers is not bad. But you want to put a small pump in there, because detritus will settle there quick. Adjust the water level just under the top of the skimmers reaction chamber, that should help a bit. I didn't use a silencer with the old skimmer, so I can't really say, what the effect of it is. But I assume it will cut the air intake quite a bit. The skimmer itself is quite loud.. Honestly I wouldn't mess with this thing. The Tunze 9011 and 9016 also fit in there. The skimmer certainly is the weakest part of the system. Hope that helps. |

You can probably adjust to skim more dry you should run the skimmer from anywhere from 6 to 12 inches water depth. it usually takes a skimmer 12 to 24 to break it in.
