Ahhhhhh!!!...time for new skimmer..

Broke my skimmer today! I've been thinking about a update anyways, so I'm not too mad about it.

Tank is a decently stocked sps 70gallon tank with 30gal sump. I've been considering a couple different skimmers. It's been tough to make a decision. Whatever skimmer I buy, I would like to be able to use later this year when I upgrade. New tank will be a custom 125-150 gallon rimless.

So far I have on my list

aquamaxx co-1
Jns sk2
Skimz Kone181 (don't know anyone to get much feedback)
Rlss R6i (salty supply is local to me)

Anything else around this price you guys recommend? Thanks!! Making skimmer decisions really sucks.

I have been running the BM Curve series skimmers on my tanks for a while now. A Curve 7 would be a nice fit in that price range.

The Aquamaxx CO-1 will be my next skimmer, small footprint, great pump, and great reviews online.
They are out of stock everywhere right now, could be a few weeks before you could find one.

The co-1 is a toy compared to the sk2 ( not really but the sk2 handles a way bigger tank lol). Co-1 won't handle a 125-150 gallon tank... The sk2 will for sure.

My skimmer compartment in my sump is 10"x14" and my stand will accommodate a skimmer to about 28 high. Its only 100gal net of water, but I would like to go 1 up so I don't need another skimmer when I upgrade next year. Something that can handle to 175-200 gal is what I'm looking for.

As far as water level it's about 9 inches, but I have a custom skimmer stand I made which is adjustable.

Aquamaxx is actually $257, but Marine Depot marks it up.

$100 more is a 33% increase........that's pretty substantial in my wallet.

I've learned that 100$ in this hobby isn't much. I would much rather spend a extra 100$ or more if it meant getting a superior product. Especially when it comes to something like a skimmer. One of the most important pieces of equipment in our tank. I do understand what your saying, but in my case I want quality, and a skimmer that could handle my next tank. If that means spending a couple hundos more, I'm good with that

AquaMaxx EM300 will do nicely for both.

You got a winner. That skimmer pulls like a tow truck.

Yup, JNS SK2 is great skimmer. I have on my 120 and it is the best skimmer I have had in my 25+ years of this hobby. It is so consistent, it is unreal. You got a great price on it.

I run a shark SK5 it's very good, pulls out way more gunk that my last 2 skimmers, just very touchy on the adjustment side, but once it's going, I haven't had a problem at all.

Skimmer got here today. Did a quick rodi/vinegar bath to clean it up and slapped it in the sump. So far so good. It's super quite! Hopefully I have some nice black gunk in the cup soon!

I'm a fan of recirculating reef octopus. I've had many for thr price this is may favorite. My bm never was consistent and really got on my nerves. The reef octopus I never have to adjust.
