Equipment ideas for a new nano setup
Hi,
I've been on and off in the hobby for 14 years. Last I owned a tank was almost 4-5 years ago me it was a 72" with mainly SPS. Tore it down and took a break from this hobby when I moved houses. Sold off almost everything except an Aquatronica controller and some pH and salinity probes. I'm now interested in making another stab and am looking to try a nano. I'm still shopping for a tank but I will probably go with a 12" or 18" long tank, 12" deep and no more than 16-19" high. Technology have definitely advanced these few years and although there are lots of familiar company names, I'm at a lost for what is the best out there now. I'd like your help to give me some ideas on equipments, mainly lighting (I will go for LEDs), and skimmer choices (thinking hang on back). Maybe a controller as well. I am not interested in DIY at this stage and simplicity and ease of maintenance is key. Will not have a sump. No budget. Will keep solely SPS for this tank. Recommendations and ideas? Thank you! |

A single Kessil 160 they are new not out as of yet, they have been making great lights for a while now with great C/S so no fears there. I would get the Ocean blue 15k model unless you want real deep blue or stark white.

I was very interested in the Kessil but after visiting my lfs, I was sold on the GHL Mitras. In addition to the Mitras, I also picked up the Profilux 3.1 package, GHL doser, deltec MCE600 skimmer, and a vortech MP10. Also getting an 18" cube built.
I'm wondering what is the 'new' in natural filtration nowadays. Deep sand bed seems to be out and Zeovit sounds like the hype today. Growing macro algae is out of the picture for me as I don't have a sump or refugium. Alan |
