I wash them in the sink with a little dawn soap, then into the washing machine with no soap, just hot water.

I've read that soap detergents should not be used in the aquarium hobby.

Turn it inside out and blast it under a strong tap/shower.

You can put them in a washing machine, however, I have never had success with this.

I have 10 filter socks, when I'm down to my last one I put them in the washing machine with bleach only. They come out brand new clean and white. I then put them in the sun for a couple of days to evaporate any chlorine left behind.

Throw them in the washing machine the way they are. Add 1 cap of bleach. Set to double rinse and spin.. Good to go. Been doing this way for years.

I throw in washing machine, use vinegar in the soap add tray and about a 1/4 cup bleach in the bleach add tray. Turn on "whites setting" (hot and multiple rinses on my machine). Come out great and haven't caused any issues for a long while.

I just started using filter socks, I used to have no mechanical filtration, because they tend to make your nitrates high, if you don't clean often, well my nitrates were high 50ppms even without mechanical filtration for years, so I asked my local reef store how to lower them and he said mechanical filtration, like floss or better the filter socks, so I am taking there advice despite what I have read in many books. I also put a biopellet reactor and am dosing microbacter, and doing weekly water changes it's now down to 16ppms in just 3 weeks.

Soak in a bucket of water and bleach. Rinse very well. Let air dry.

It's just detritus. What would you do if you were playing in yard with your kids and fell into some dog poop? Let me guess, throw your clothes in the wash? Getting things clean is what a washing machine was designed for. Don't OVERthink it.

Yeah I'd throw them in the wash by themselves. I know the washer cleans.. but those filter socks can be stinky.. plus I use detergent with my clothes so I don't think it'd work with filter socks

Clear looking water is not always an indication of the condition of the water.

Carbon and skimming does not remove all organics and detritus, only mechanical filtration can. Along with carbon and skimming of course.

I live in an apartment and I don't have a washing machine so I just soak them in chlorine and water for a day, turn them inside out and rinse vigorously in water until the chlorine smell is gone or almost gone, them hang them to dry for at least 3 days.

My corals enjoy detritus as it breaks down.. (idk, they're always hanging onto poop)

I turn my inside out so they don't get beat up in the wash. I then run them in hot water with an extra spin cycle. I've been doing this for years and it works great.
