hitchhiker in my tank
photo polyp.jpgJust got a new GSP and noticed a hitchhiker growing in the middle of the rock. Any idea what it is? Should I remove the hitchhiker or get rid of the whole rock, or just leave it be?
Thanks for the help |

It looks like a form of grape caulerpa, I would remove it asap as it is likely to be an invasive species.

Again, a dumb newbie question. Just forget the entire rock and attached coral or is there a safe way to remove the caulerpa from the rock?

If you grab what looks like the root and pull very slowly from one side, it might come off in one piece. GL.

return it. gsps is cheap anyway. or you could try cutting out the pest. or chipping off a piece of rock. gsp is often cut to make frags.
