Creative1's JBJ 28 gal NanoCube (Intermediate)

Hi all

I finally got to upgrade from my 9 gal Eheim to a JBJ 28 Gal Nanocube (Intermediate LED). it's not a huge upgrade, but better, especially with the sump in the back!

On Friday, Oct. 24, I had placed everything from the 9 gal into buckets with a pump (my two clowns, snails, crabs, LR and corals) while I set up the JBJ in the same spot. Took a few hours to set up the tank, get the water and salinity right (I used most of the water from the old tank). I also put new clean sand down, with a little bit from the old tank (About a teaspoon). I used the 8 lbs of LR from the old tank, and added another 7-9 lbs of dry rock.

I need to wait for the mini-cycle to pass before I can add more LR. I am thinking of getting corals on rocks already, instead of plugs, to bring the LR to Gallon ratio to par.

So far all readings looked good as of yesterday and livestock are active. I will have to do another testing tonight.

My Hammer Coral hasn't come out of its base, but my zoa's and Duncan are doing very well. My mushrooms aren't as big as they were in my old tank, but they aren't shrinking at least. How long would these corals stay angry for? I assume the move was hard on them.

I still need to put in my kylor pump- which needs to be cleaned.
What's the best way to clean used pumps? This was in my old tank and it's algae covered.

I have a question though.. I got a nano skimmer, that supposed to be for this tank (I can't open the lid without it hitting it). It's not turned on yet.. but I am confused on how it's supposed to work. It didn't come with any instructions (I followed the photo on the box, and I think I did it right). i can't place the name of the skimmer on top of my head right now.

The tank looks so empty, considering the corals looked crowded in my 9 gal, LOL.

Photos will come soon.

Soak the pump overnight in white vinegar to clean it. Check out the JBJ 28 thread in the nano-tank forum for modifications of your skimmer or tank (if any are needed to make it work).
