sulfur denitrator reactor

I have been running a diy reactor for maybe 3 months now and have it adjusted so as to have maybe 1 or 2 ppm in my display tank. Output of the reactor is 0. I have my reactor in a sump along with some cheato. I am wondering if I could get rid of the cheato and its lights from my system since the reactor is doing such a good job of cleaning up the nitrates? The cheato has never really grown well and I would say it pretty much doesnt grow at all now with the reactor.
thanks for your inputs
Jeff
