On a scale from 1-10 how hard is breeding clownfish?

Wanna here your input. Im thinking about doing this but want to know the chances of being successful. Feel free to leave ideas and pictures of your builds below.

Im going to tag along for this. I have done quite a bit of Google research on the subject and want to give it a go myself once I get the space. I am starting to practice growing rotifiers and brine shrimp. I will feed the brine to my mandrin in the mean time.

That question is very subjective.

I have also been thinking very hard about this. I will be tagging along. I was thinking about ordering a pair from LiveAquaria's DD. Anybody try this before?

I'm curious as well. Specifically what else in the tank should've avoided to make them safe. (No obvious predators)

Clownfish by Joyce Wilkersen while a good book to have is a bit dated from the information available online.

I've tried rearing clowns with little success and my downfall was the phyto and zooplankton. So if I was to do it again that area would be my focus. The rest seems pretty straight forward, The babies hatch themselves and swim towards a light and you just grab em with a turkey baster or transfer them out if laid on a teracotta pot. Once into the rearing tank with the gut loaded zooplankton they pretty much start feeding right away, you can't see the zooplankton but the clownfish curl their tails just before 'pouncing' is pretty much the only indication of them feeding.....very neat to watch

I think some people have a much more blue thumb in regards to stuff like this, not me but I hope to try it again someday.

You have my respect, so I instantly went to Amazon. $130 for a used copy is simply too steep for me. (The $9 Kindle version would be fine..... If I had a Kindle).

Are there tank mates to avoid, and a minimum tank size to go for?

I will also tag along because my clowns seem to be pairing off and hopefully will mate.

For that price you can buy a kindle and the kindle version.

breedclownfish.com is a good source of info. I have had pretty good success with raising clownfish fry. I wouldn't say it is difficult but it is a fair amount of work/ time. If you get a good supply of rotifers and phyto going then the rest is easy. I think the hardest part for me was getting the fry out of the display tank once they hatch. The hassle of that is what turned me off of breeding them any more.

Getting them to breed is actually fairly easy. Get a pair, feed them well, and give them proper water conditions and nature will take its course.

The hard part is raising the fry.
The basics;
Once the eggs are laid, need to remove them (( best to have the clowns lay on a bathroom tile )) to a separate tank.
Keep the eggs clean and aerated.
Once they hatch, feed the rotifers --- have to raise the "rots" yourself first, which can be difficult.

A cover of "Hello" by Lionel Richie helps with the spawning,

I know this was posted a while ago, but you don't need a Kindle to read Kindle books. You can read them with the free Kindle app on Android and iOS, or download the free Kindle app for PC.

Am I missing something? On Amazon it shows $28 for paperback. You must be looking at the Collectable version.

Nice video Toddrtrex, I love pink skunks and the nem is beautiful!
I've thought about it too, and have seen broods of tomato fry in my tank in the morning. They will congregate to a flashlight, I could have netted some w/ a brine shrimp net, but never had the setup or intestinal fortitude to try to raise them.

Also, if you have a smart phone, the kindle app is free. Free app and a $9 book seems like a good way to go.

The hard part is not breeding, the hard part from my buddies experience was finding people to take 80+ clowfish off your hands before they all start dying if you don't have 10-20 tanks.

I wonder how much the local LFS would pay wholesale for those.
