Strap Wrench---a real good thing to own.
A strap wrench is a simple, cheap plastic thingamabob with a slot in it with a strip of rubber attached.
When faced with a cylindrical object the lid of which you can't get unscrewed, especially a filter cylinder or a GFO that has suffered a vacuum action since you cut the pump off---or an obstinate large jar of dill pickles that is way too big for your hand to get a grip on---this device is worth its weight in, well, something. You slip the rubber bit into the slot---and push the plastic handle while holding onto the screwtop you're trying to undo---hold lid with a grippy square, if really, really, really stuck. And the body of the object..rotates...thus freeing the lid. I've used mine on my car, on jars, on tank cylinders, and obstinate Christmas items. I just used it to free up and clean two GFO reactors that were stuck like you wouldn't believe. Easy. Anybody can do it. Your ro/di cylinders may come with a very effective plastic wrench...but a strap wrench is one-size-fits-all-jobs. Under 10.00 at your hardware store. http://www.amazon.com/Empire-Level-2...s=strap+wrench

Great tip. I have nerve damage in both hands. Loosening and tightening plumbing has become quite a chore. Couldn't do it without my strap wrench. I actually bought it to remove bottle caps and jar lids. Great tool.
